India Draws a Line: Operation Sindoor Targets Terrorist Havens of Lashkar, Jaish, and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen

May 12 - OPERATION SINDOOR was launched on 7th May by the Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian armed forces carried out 24 precision missile strikes against nine terror bases in Pakistan and PoK. The targeted locations included Muridke, Bahawalpur, and Kotli, known havens for Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. This mission was conducted between 1:05 AM and 1:30 AM. It was declared that Operation Sindoor aimed only to destroy the terrorist infrastructure where terrorist activities against India were planned and directed. Neither the Pakistani military forces nor civilians were targeted in this operation.

For over three decades, Muridke served as a hub of terror activities, housing the official headquarters of Jamat-ud-Dawa, a Salafi organisation founded by Hafiz Saeed. Bahawalpur, notable for Jamia Masjid Subhanallah, was also a prominent training hub for terrorism, and the birthplace of Masood Azhar, who later established Jaish-e-Mohammed's base there. Similarly, Kotli in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) hosted one of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen's oldest facilities, used in the early 1990s to train Kashmiri militants. Hizb chief Syed Salahuddin tops India's wanted list.

In a decisive move, Operation Sindoor, lasting just 25 minutes, drew a new red line, significantly increasing Pakistan's cost of sponsoring terror strikes against India.

The Indian Ministry of Defence convened a press conference to brief the media on Operation Sindoor. Defence Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sophia Qureshi of the Indian Army, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force addressed the gathering. They stated that the operation targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, specifically hitting Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed infrastructure, in response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 Indians and one Nepali national, including Navy Lt Vinay Narwal. Vikram Misri emphasized that the mission aimed to deliver justice to the victims, while Wing Commander Vyomika Singh highlighted that the operation exclusively targeted terrorist infrastructure, avoiding Pakistani military installations and civilian casualties. The operation resulted in significant damage to terrorist networks, with over 100 terrorists reportedly killed.
This  Operation Sindoor involved precision-guided long-range weapons targeting 21 terror camps across nine locations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and Punjab, Pakistan. The arsenal likely included advanced systems like the French SCALP cruise missile, HAMMER air-to-ground precision-guided weapons, and the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. Recent acquisitions of drones, including lethal loitering munitions, also played a role. Strategic use of precision strike missiles and drones maximized impact on targets.

Meanwhile, nationwide civil defense drills and air exercises potentially masked the operation, diverting attention from India's planned action.

In response to ' Operation Sindoor ' Pakistan retaliates with heavy mortar shelling across the LoC. They attacked Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Rajouri districts.
