Kolkata: The web series 'Jaisalmer Jomjomat' is a recent release from KLIKK, directed by Ringo Banerjee and produced by Ohendrila Banerjee under Ring a Bell Films. This series draws inspiration from Satyajit Ray's iconic movie Sonar Kella.
For Bengalis, Satyajit Ray stands as a symbol of nostalgia. Satyajit Ray was not only an Indian filmmaker but also a source of pride for us. He has contributed numerous iconic films to the Bengali film industry, one of which is 'Sonar Kella' (The Golden Fortress), for which he is widely known. Released in 1974, 'Sonar Kella' is an adventurous and mysterious story set in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India, featuring the iconic Jaisalmer Fort. The film's release further popularized the fort as a tourist destination among Bengalis. 'Sonar Kella' holds a special place in Bengali cinema and is beloved by many. The film introduced the iconic detective character Feluda, played by Soumitra Chatterjee, and his young assistant, Topshe, played by Siddhartha Chatterjee.
So as this iconic film, 'Sonar Kella', completes its 50th years, to celebrate it, the 'Jaisalmer Jomjomat' series was created, as a tribute to the legendary Satyajit Ray. The series features an amazing cast, including Sabyasachi Chowdhury, Meghla Dasgupta, Amrita Debnath, Devtanu, Moumita Pal, Rajdip Pal, Debasish Nath, Shaheer Raj, and many others.
The plot revolves around a story of a Bengali family who travels to Jaisalmer for their vacation. Rajat Babu , a bank manager was very eager to explore the mysterious Mukul Bari and the Golden Fort, a key location from the "Sonar Kella". He was accompanied by his wife, daughter, and young son. But as the story unfolds their vacation turns into a nightmare when a packet of drugs goes missing, trapping the family in a turmoil . As the family fights for survival, one by one, secret mysteries unravel, and their love faces a difficult test.
Talking of performances, Sabyasachi Chowdhury delivers a standout performance as Neelanjan. Meghla Dasgupta shines spectacularly as Rituparna, bringing her character to life with brilliance. Amrita Debnath adds a strong presence to her role as Oishi, impressing with her stunning performance. Onkar Bhattacharya also makes a great impression as Oishi's little brother Ribhu. Debasish Nath delivers an outstanding performance as bank manager Rajat Babu, while Moumita Paul perfectly suits the role of his wife. Devtanu brings depth to his character Rakesh, and Rajdeep Paul and Saheer Raj shine in their respective roles.
